We are running the following events face-to-face or online via Zoom. They are free for Berkshire families or at a nominal cost. Some events have a small number of tickets available for non-Berkshire families. Please click on the highlighted event title for further information and to book.

Sensory Processing Workshop: Berkshire East 
For parent/carers of children and young people with Sensory Processing difficulties, who are registered with a Berkshire East NHS GP surgery or living in the Boroughs of Ascot, Bracknell Forest, Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead. Your child does not need to have received a diagnosis for you to attend this workshop.
Tuesday 19th March, 7-9pm via Zoom.
 
Community Parent/Carer Support Group: Bracknell
A support group for family members who have children/young people with additional needs living within the community of Bracknell. Children welcome under parent supervision. *Please note this is a dairy free setting*.
Thursday 21st March, 12.30-2.30pm at Great Hollands Community Centre.
 
Sleep & Anxiety for Parents/Carers of Children & Young People with Special Needs: Open to all Parents/Carers
Topics covered: Why do we need sleep? What happens when you don’t get enough sleep? Common sleep problems. What is anxiety? Some types of anxiety. How to manage your child’s anxiety. Mindfulness exercise. Breathing exercise. Reading suggestions and resources. Opportunity to ask questions.

The A Team: Awesome Autism/ADHD (inc Girls Parent/Carer Support Group)
For Autistic and/or ADHD girls (age 8-18) who live, or attend a school, in Berkshire. We have a few tickets for non-Berkshire girls. Parents and carers may stay on site and attend our Autistic/ADHD Girls Parents/Carers Support Group. You can attend the support group without a child attending The A Team. 
Topic: Yoga and Easter Crafts.
Saturday 23rd March, 10am-12pm at Lower Earley Baptist Church.
 
Events Next Week
Transition to Adulthood Workshop: Berkshire West
For parent/carers of young people (age 15-25) who have a diagnosis/awaiting assessment of Autism/ADHD, registered with a Berkshire West NHS GP (Reading, West Berkshire, Wokingham).
Topic: Education, with a speaker from IASS.
Tuesday 26th March, 9.30-11am via Zoom.
 
Teens and ADHD Workshop: Open to all Parents/Carers
This workshop is suitable for parents/carers who have previously attended ADHD training, for example PSC’s ADHD Course or ADHD Pre and Post Assessment workshop series.
Topics covered: Understanding & working with change. Exploring the challenges and concerns, as well as strengths and opportunities. Supporting our teenagers through change – A Strengths-Based Approach in Practice. Identity & Self-Esteem. Staying Connected – Communication and Relationships. Independence & Responsibility. Managing Risk.

‘Lets Get Creative!’ Taster Event for Kinship Care Families
A taster session for children aged 5-12 living with Kinship/Connected Carers and Special Guardians.
Children and young people will be split into age groups to attend workshops with music and play therapists, who have training and extensive experience in attachment and therapeutic arts. Carers are required to stay for the duration of the session in the room next door where we will hold an informal support group; a chance to meet others with similar experiences and relax with a cup of tea/coffee. You can attend the support group without a child attending Let’s Get Creative. 
Saturday 13th April, 10am-12pm at Lower Earley Baptist Church.
 
Social Interaction Group for Children and Young People: School Years 4 to 8
The course is for young people in mainstream education (school years 4-8, though year 9 may be considered) who either already have a diagnosis of Autism and/or ADHD or are on the Berkshire CAMHS waiting list for assessment, and are registered with a Berkshire West NHS GP surgery (Reading, West Berkshire, Wokingham).
Aim: To develop the confidence and emotional well being of young people through meeting regularly with peers and exploring the social world together. The course will focus on issues including knowing ourselves, friendships, self-esteem, independence and self advocacy.
Monday 15th, 22nd and 29th April, 13th and 20th May, 4.30-6.30pm at Tilehurst Youth and Community Centre.
 
ADHD: Medication, Treatment Choices and Outcomes: Open to all Parents/Carers
Two linked workshops lead by Dr Carsten Vogt (Berkshire CAMHS Consultant). You are booking to attend two sessions via Zoom.
Session 1: Medicines: types of medication, drug mechanism and administration, prescribing guidance, drug daily profile, side effects, long term use, drug holidays, neurodevelopment.
Session 2: Treatment Choices and Outcomes: treatment choices – medication versus therapy, outcome information, outcome results – reflection, what can we learn from the outcomes?, what can we do to improve outcomes?
Wednesday 17th and 24th April, 7-8.30pm via Zoom.
 
Supporting Children with Trauma/Insecure Attachment at School: for Professionals
This training will be delivered over two workshops via Zoom. It will go through the impact of trauma and insecure attachments on children as well as strategies to support them to feel safe, reduce pre-occupation, regulate emotions and focus on academic learning at school.
Friday 19th and 26th April, 12.30-2.30pm via Zoom.
 
Who’s in Charge? Child/Adolescent to Parent Violence & Abuse: West Berkshire Council Area Families 
This course provides a therapeutic approach for families of children and young people with special needs (aged 8 – 18) who are violent or aggressive. Please note we can only accept bookings from families with a child who lives, or attends a school, in the West Berkshire Council area.
Aim: Provide a supportive environment to share experiences and ideas. Reduce the guilt and shame which most parents feel. Offer ideas to help you develop individual strategies for managing your child’s behaviour. Explore ways of increasing safety and well-being. Help parents feel more in control and less stressed.
Session Outlines: Introductions and “Who’s in Charge?” course outline. Influences and “Causes” of violent and abusive behaviours. Child: Controlling and Abusive Behaviours. Parent: Behaviour Management Options. Styles of Parenting. Child & Parent: Exploring the Concept of Anger. Assertiveness. Self-care, Resilience and Maintenance. One session review after 3 months.
Monday 22nd and 29th April, (break for Bank Holiday), 13th and 20th May (break for Bank Holiday and Half Term), 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th June. 7-9pm via Zoom. (Follow up session: expected Sep/Oct 2024).
