Year 3 - Encouraging Pollinators

Year 3 have been inspired by their bug count to explore how to best to encourage pollinators. Insects are vital to the pollination of flowers, which enables fertilization, reproduction and the production of the fruit that we eat.  The decline in wild bees and other insects is therefore a serious concern.

Working with Kew Gardens, Reading Borough Council and Conservation in Reading on Wednesdays (CROW), Year 3 have been learning about growing plants and wildflowers, in particular, and over the coming weeks, they will be creating 3 large wildflower beds in Blundell's Copse.
