Our teaching assistants are: Mrs Baines who will be in in the mornings and Mrs Jayanth in the afternoons.
We are also very lucky to have other helpers in our class including Norma, Cheryl, Ellie and Mrs Siddiq.
Year 1 has lots of exciting topics for the children to explore and we will be conducting a piece of writing every Friday in our Big Write sessions. Please remember to talk with the children about their ‘talk homework’ topic in preparation for the big write on a Friday! This will go out every Monday.
During this term, we will be looking at the Seaside for our topic. We will be focusing on the seaside and how this has changed over time.
Phonics and spelling will be implemented through our Read Write Inc. We will practice writing more independently by using our phonic knowledge.
Our Literacy will be based on stories with familiar settings and will focus in particular on characters’ emotions and expressions. We will be looking at traditional tales and rhymes with repeated patterns.
In Numeracy, we will be looking at telling the time and adding three single digits together.
In Science this term we will be looking at the seasons and plants.
In our ICT lessons we will be learning how to log on and off the computer. We will be looking at using the internet and how to navigate it.
In Geography we will be looking at the seaside and comparing this to the Caribbean.
Our History will be looking at how clothing for the beach has changed over time.
In Music we will be making music using buckets and spades.
In DT we will be looking at creating a boat that will float on the water.
In Art we will be using shells to create abstract drawings.
In RE, we will be learning about the Jewish celebration of Shabbat and how light is important in the faiths of Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism.
Outdoor and indoor P.E. will take place twice a week normally on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure there is a full P.E kit in school all week as these times may change on occasions.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL SCHOOL UNIFORM IS NAMED BUT ESPECIALLY THE P.E. KIT AS WHEN 30 CHILDREN GET CHANGED THERE IS CLOTHING EVERYWHERE!
Please remember to put sun cream on children before they come to school. They can then reapply this themselves. They will need sun hats and water bottles everyday!
In Year 1 (EF) we were learning about the story of Palm Sunday. The children then created their own palms. As they finished, one child decided to lay down her coat and start re-enacting the story. The other children all followed and soon enough they were chanting 'Hosanna to the king!'.
