Welcome to Year 1
Our class teacher is Miss Rolph-Dickinson and we are very lucky to have Mrs Baines, Mrs Kidd, Maureen and Mrs Waters as our adult helpers.
Our topic for Combined studies this half term is ‘seaside'. We will be looking at where seasides are located and what you can do there. We'll think about where we go on holiday and why. As historians we'll study what Victorian seaside holidays were like and why they became so popular. In Art we'll use the seaside as a stimulus for seaside images, focusing on painting, pastels, drawings, collage and sand. We might even sing some seaside inspired songs!
Our Science topic is ‘plants'. We will look at plants in our local area and think about what they need to survive. Hopefully we'll be able to grow our own plants, carefully monitoring and measuring how they grow.
In Literacy we will be continuing with our Read, Write Inc Literacy programme, where we work in groups to do our phonics, reading and writing. On Fridays we will be doing Big Write, focusing on the vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation we use in our writing. It is REALLY important we do our talk homework so we have lots to write about on our own.
In Numeracy we'll be continuing to extend our knowledge of all things mathematical. We'll be looking at capacity, odd and even numbers and money problems. We'll be practising our counting, number bonds and proving how we know our answers are correct.
P.E will be on a FRIDAY.
