Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of financially disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their non-disadvantaged peers.
Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for the educational benefit for pupils in school in year groups from Reception to Year 6. These children are from eligible families who are registered for Free School Meals (FSM), or who have been registered for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6’), together with children that have been in care continuously for 6 months or more. In addition, the school also receives funding for children who have been adopted from care or left care or are subject to a residency order.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at state schools in England automatically receive free school meals. However, if you think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding, it is still important to register them so the school can receive funding which can go towards supporting your child.
Children in KS2: your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
Our Pupil Premium strategy is based on 3 principles:

We know, and academic research shows us, that high quality teaching is the best chance to close attainment gaps between pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant and non-disadvantaged pupils. Spending in this area focuses on CPD for staff, focusing on developing early language, and feedback and improvement opportunities.
Targeted Academic Support focusses on delivering specific interventions to support disadvantaged pupils in closing the attainment gap between them and their peers. At Churchend, these interventions include focusing on keeping up in phonics and speech and language groups.
Wider strategies are other strategies that Churchend Primary Academy use to support disadvantaged pupils and their families. These include support from our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), our Nurture provision, our Family Liaison Lead and supporting families with accessing educational experiences.
