Jasper's Beanstalk
To start our topic "In the Garden", we have read Jasper's Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen.
It is a simple story of Jasper the cat, who is trying to grow a beanstalk. In the beginning of the story, we learn that Jasper finds a bean and he plants it in the ground. Each day, he tends to his bean in the soil by mowing, watering and picking up the slugs and snails so that his bean will grow. After a long time of waiting, Jasper's beanstalk does not grow and Jasper is very unhappy. He digs the bean out of the soil and throws it away. A long time later, Jasper is reading his book and he looks out of the window to see a huge beanstalk which has grown from the bean. Just like his hero Jack, Jasper goes looking for giants...
We enjoyed this story so much that we have had our own go at illustrating and retelling the story. We hope you enjoy our spoken stories. There are 5 groups, so make sure you listen to them all! As we drew and told our favourite bit of Jasper's story, some story tellers have made it into more than one group! Well done everyone.
