Didcot Railway

We had a wonderful trip to Didcot Railway Centre. We arrived at Tilehurst station and took a new electric train.  Before the train arrived, we put all our safety knowledge and skills learnt from the British Transport Police into practice. We stood well away from the yellow line, stayed together and waited patiently for the train. We held hands when getting on the train to help with the big step. The train was very smooth and very fast.

At Didcot we split into groups and looked around/ experienced:

  • Old trains and how they are powered
  • Manual signalling and repeating a pattern from the signal worker
  • Exchanging a coin for a ticket, and then having the ticket stamped
  • A ride on an old steam train
  • A look around the museum with miniature railway
  • An imaginary journey to the sea side.

We had a lovely visit and our trip ended with a final surprise - the chance to say hello to our train driver Mark at Didcot station and some of us were able to be lifted into the train driver's cab and have our photo taken.
