Year 2

Welcome back!

We hope you have had back a wonderful break.

This year your children will be taught by:

Mrs Fields (Mon – Wed), Mrs McAloon (Thurs-Fr) and Mrs Stanley (Badgers)

Mrs Gillespie and Mrs Collins (Hedgehogs)

We also will be joined by Norma and Cheryl our volunteers.

Literacy
In Literacy we will start the new term by continuing our work on persuasive writing. Within the unit, we will use adjectives to add detail to our writing and look at different types of persuasive language. After this, we will be looking at writing letters from Victorian children to their parents. The term will continue with instruction writing and finish with traditional tales. These will include, The elves and the shoemaker, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the beanstalk and The three little pigs.
Phonics
Phonics and spelling will continue to be implemented through Read Write Inc. Spellings will be given out every Thursday and tested the following Thursday
Maths
In Maths, we will be extending our number and place value knowledge by looking at ordinal numbers. We will then progress on to improving our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills.
Times tables
Tables will be given out every Wednesday and tested the following week
Combined Studies
This term in our Combined Studies lessons we will be continuing to focus on The Victorians. We will be looking at Queen Victoria's life and the interesting events within it.

PE
Outdoor and indoor P.E. will take place on Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure there is a full P.E kit in school all week as these times may change on occasions. PE kits will be sent home on a Friday. Please ensure ALL clothing is named.
Homework
Our homework will be sent home at the start of each half term. Children will be asked to complete at least 5 pieces of topic homework.

Please remember to send children in with coats, hats and gloves.

Water bottles need to be labelled and in school every day.

We are always very appreciative of any help that can be offered by parent helpers/volunteers. Please speak to a member of the Year 2 team or school office if you are interested.

We really hope this first term in Year 2 is enjoyable and inspiring for all.

Many thanks
