Welcome to Crocodile Class!

Did you know? Crocodiles are adaptable, intelligent and are good at working in teams.

In Crocodile Class, we support our children to be:

- Curious or 'snappy' learners

- Open to new challenges

- Comfortable working alone and as part of a group.

Our Day

In Reception, we start our day by putting our belongings away.  We need to read our names on our coat pegs and trays to make sure our things are in the right place.  Every day, a different table group is responsible for keeping our cloakroom tidy. As we come in, we begin activities to help develop our hand and finger strength while we wait for our friends to arrive.

After the register, our brains are buzzing and our morning activities start.  We are learning letters and sounds to help us read and write, and we are counting objects and finding how to write numbers.  We take lots of time to run, jump and explore the outdoor area and always have access to a healthy snack each day.  We love listening to stories and learning through doing in our classroom role play area.  At lunchtime, we eat with our friends and children having school lunches will learn how to use a knife and fork.  We practice good manners at all times of the school day and we follow our school rules at all times.

Churchend School rules:

  • Show respect and good manners at all times
  • Care for everyone and everything
  • Follow instructions with thought and care

Termly topic

This term our topic is Who am I?  In our first term, the children discover more about who they are.  We investigate similarities, but also what makes them unique.  We think about how they have grown since they were born, and how the needs of children change as they grow.  We share likes and dislikes, discuss emotions and find out how our bodies work including keeping healthy and how we use our senses to navigate the world around us.  We learn more about families and what makes our families special.

Regular activities each week

  • On Monday afternoons (fortnightly) we will go to Forest School
  • On Wednesday afternoons we have outdoor PE
  • On Thursday mornings we have indoor PE
  • On Friday mornings we have a talking and listening activity
  • On Friday afternoons we have a rotation of ICT, music and movement and craft activities.

Please see our timetable at the bottom of the page for more information.

Talk to us!

Our doors are always open for parents to speak to us.  We are at our happiest when the children are happy and thriving at school.  Longer appointments can be made via the school office. If you haven't already, please sign up to Class Dojo so that we can share information with you.  We'll use this system to send reminders and non-urgent messages.

Achievements at home

We also want to know about the amazing things the children do when they are away from school by filling in a "proud cloud".  A proud cloud is a way of sharing your child's achievements with us in school.  Whatever your child has done, no matter how small, it is an achievement that you are proud of and we want to share that with everyone in class.

Achievements can be learning to do something for the first time, being brave, being kind or persevering with something tricky.  It could be an achievement from swimming lessons, dance class, football club or any other out of school activity.

The most important thing is that whatever your child does to make you proud, we want you to tell us! Please fill in the proud cloud with writing, drawing or photographs and bring to school. Thank you.
