Celebrating Diwali

The Reception children have been finding out about Diwali- the festival of lights. The children heard the story of Rama and Sita which is remembered at Diwali. It is a story how good triumphed over evil. The festival celebrates with fireworks, oil lamps and candles, the little diya lamps that led Rama and Sita home. It is a festival celebrated by Hindus and some of the children in our class brought in their Diwali outfits and some lovely Diwali treats for us to share. We loved trying the new sweets.

The children made their own Diwali sweets - Barfi. They rolled the mixture into balls and then rolled the balls in the decorations. They were yummy!  They have also been decorating diwali cards with mirror patterns. They had to use their cutting skills to create these lovely cards.
